Coaching VS Managing

Opt In | Ep. 23

SDR Managers (broadly) have 2 responsibilities:

  1. To manage the day-to-day operations of their SDRs
  2. To coach and upskill their SDRs

Unfortunately, a lot of managers end up shirking their second responsibility.

Which is too bad. Coaching is usually the fun part of the job. I mean, who really wants to manage an SDR team?

The big thing to remember is that while coaching and managing your reps are different tasks, they don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Effective coaching can help improve the day-to-day operations of the reps on your team. And hands-on managing sessions can turn into learning opportunities for your SDRs.

After all, you’re in charge of people. Not numbers. And if you want to get the most out of your team, you have to look beyond the numbers and treat them as such.
